Where To Stay in Rome Italy

Rome is a very large city. Picking the right location for your visit is very Important. When visiting most cities as a tourist in Italy simply picking the historical city center works great. Rome’s historical center however is larger than many Italian cities so knowing where to stay within the historical area is very important. Picking the right location means less time commuting and walking and more time enjoying your stay. Here are my 2 favorite areas to base out of when visiting Rome. Choosing the right location or area to stay in Rome can have a huge impact on you visit so take the time to educate yourself so you can stay near the things that iterest you the most.

1. Largo Argentina

In my opinion the area from Largo Argentina and to the southwest towards the Tiber River is by far the best location to stay while visiting Rome especially if it is yiour first visit to Rome.. Largo Argentina is in the center of most of the sites in Rome including the Pantheon, Piazza Navona, Campo dei Fiori, the Jewish Ghetto, Trastevere, Trevi’s Fountain, Circus Maximus and more. Torre Argentina is also a hub for taxis and busses to easily take you to other parts of the city such as The Vatican, Termini Station and the Colosseum. One if the best things about this location is its easy access the Trastevere where I like spending most of my evenings in Rome. Trastevere in my opinion is Rome’s best neighborhood. It has great night life with many of Rome’s best restaurants. You may find this blogpost helpful.

2. Trastevere

Trastevere is my favorite neighborhood in Rome. It sits just west of the Tiber River and is one of Rome’s most lively neighborhoods. There are tons of great restaurants, boutique shops and unique venders of every kind. It has a great atmosphere that make walking its streets very enjoyable. This area tends to be safe and friendly.

While Trastevere is not serviced well by the metro, busses and taxis are readily available. From Trastevere many of Rome’s important sites can be reached by foot fairly easily. If you stay in Trastevere too long you may want to call it your new home!
